To celebrate Cibo's 30-year milestone this March, owner Jeremy Turner and his team are putting on a bit of an extravaganza. Celebrating over two nights (Friday March 22 and Saturday March 23), the team are in their own words “fizzing with anticipation” and offering a six-course degustation menu, pink champagne, Cru Bordeaux, live entertainment (drag queens, Dick Johnson on the decks, famed saxophonist Andrew Isdale and Ella Monnery’s accomplished vocals) for what’s shaping up to be “fabulousness, shenanigans and then some”. $375pp, tickets are strictly limited and can be purchased by email – cibo30@cibo.co.nz.
In addition to their evening celebrations, Cibo have also chosen to collaborate with some uniquely fabulous New Zealand brands, and renowned jeweller Nick Von K has made something very special to capture the unique magic of the Cibo experience. His design will be auctioned to raise money for the Starship Foundation, helping improve the lives of New Zealand’s seriously sick and injured children. “We are incredibly grateful to Cibo for including the Starship Foundation in their 30th birthday celebration. Every day in Starship, children are fighting for their lives. Every dollar raised helps transform paediatric healthcare for all New Zealand children who need it,” Joanna Simon, Starship Foundation CEO.
Nick's imagination has seen him dream up a bespoke, one-of-a-kind, solid sterling silver bloom, encrusted with over 1,150 sparkling pink crystal Cubic Zirconia's, and hand strung on cultured Pearls. Von K explains “I was so excited to make this piece which is inspired by the unique extravagance of Cibo! I remember so vividly the interior decor from the times I’ve had the pleasure of dining there. The lush flowers, the pink everywhere, the fabulousness of their busy yet attentive team. I spun all of these elements into the piece to make something deliciously over the top and decadent. Von K goes on to explain “there are exactly 1154 CZ stones set into it, each set by hand one by one, and this dedication to detail to present a huge overall impact was also an element I felt reflected the dedication to presentation at Cibo - from their artfully plated food, to the teams outfits and personalities, and the lusher than lush décor, the Cibo experience is over the top perfection, and I’ve done by best to capture that”.
